Exceptional Software became an OSGi Alliance Adopter Associate in October, 2008. Our membership allows us to collaborate with other member companies to influence specification developments – which helps shape the future of OSGi technology and the industry at large.

What is OSGi?

OSGi technology is a component integration platform with a service-oriented architecture and lifecycle capabilities that enable dynamic delivery of services. The OSGi specifications enhance the SOA strategy of enterprises today – they modularize and componentize the Java platform and allow applications to be adapted remotely and in real time. The OSGi Service Platform allows software components to be started, stopped, updated, or removed without system disruption.

How do we use OSGi?

We work with the OSGi Alliance’s worldwide consortium of technology innovators to help advance this proven and mature process. This process increases the interoperability of applications and services based on the OSGi Service Platform. By adopting OSGi technology, we reinforce our commitment to delivering standards-based, silo-free technology that helps our customers solve their complex computing challenges. Additionally, we offer expertise in OSGi technology development and deployment, and we will soon offer OSGi-related training and certification programs.

By leveraging the OSGi Service Platform, Exceptional Software and other Alliance member companies can implement next-generation Service Oriented Architectures. Employing OSGi technology, we build systems from pre-built, pre-tested and pre-approved components from our OSGi bundle repository, or construct new components adhering to the OSGi technology specifications. As we discover or develop new OSGi components, they are vetted, and then added to our repository. This model affords a standardized methodology for positively controlling software artifacts deployed in our operational systems. This efficient process significantly shortens time to delivery, and provides our customers with rapid, stable, secure, and cost-effective solutions.
