Organizational Development Newsletter – October 2018

Section – a distinct group within a larger body of people or things.

Manager – An individual who is in charge of a certain group of tasks, or a certain subset of a company. A manager often has a staff of people who report to him or her.

Section Manager – An ESS individual, based on their skill level, selected to manage overall Performance of an assigned subset of people in the company.

The restructure of the Section Manager role was essential to three critical areas for the company:

  1. Employee Onboarding and Retention. Many ESS employees have been with the company for over 5 years or more.  As new employees join, we need to ensure they become integrated into our company, AND also into a community of coworkers who understand the culture and commitment management has to providing a workplace of choice in this industry.  SM’s will reach out to their employees on a weekly basis to understand their perspective of the company and share important company communication.  This will ensure everyone is aware of not just the name of the company they work for but who we really are at heart.  Monthly team lunches will help unite the team and allow opportunities to communicate and get to know team mates in an informal setting.
  2. Employee Performance Management. Employees need to know how they are doing on their projects and in general.  This feedback should be ongoing and opportunities for improvement should be discussed early so there are no surprises at review time.  The SM will be collecting feedback from team members, team leads and PM’s so that they can communicate strengths and areas to improve which will generate opportunities for growth not only individually, but for the company overall.
  3. Communication. Critical to the success of the company and its employees is the communication flow of information to bridge gaps and help facilitate all around communication vital to our organization.   SM’s will meet bi-weekly as a team to foster that communication at all levels of the organization.

We are proud of the team of the Section Managers we have currently on board.   We are excited to implement the new team and look forward to facilitating the positive change in the culture of ESS.
